What “free” means for Blender

The Blender application is distributed under the GNU General Public License. You do not need a trial key, monthly payment or watermark removal purchase. Blender Foundation publishes the source code, and the official desktop downloads are available for supported Windows, macOS and Linux systems.

Can you make money with Blender?

Yes. The images, animations, models and videos you create are your work, subject to the rights attached to any third-party assets you use. You can use Blender in freelance work, a studio pipeline, product visualization, YouTube content or a game project. The Blender license does not force your rendered image or animation to be free.

What might still cost money?

The core software is free, but creators may choose to pay for training, cloud rendering, marketplace assets, add-ons, stock material or more powerful hardware. Some add-ons have separate licenses. Review the seller’s terms before using paid or downloaded assets in commercial work.
