OTP Not Arriving on Android: Complete Checklist

Fix Android OTP delivery problems by checking SIM status, spam filtering, permissions, network and app state.

When an OTP does not arrive on Android, first determine whether the problem affects all SMS or only one service. That distinction tells you whether to focus on the phone and carrier or on the account and sender. Menu names differ by manufacturer, but the checks below apply broadly.

Check SIM and network

Confirm the registered SIM is enabled, has signal and can receive a normal text. On dual-SIM devices, verify the expected phone number and line. Toggle airplane mode briefly, then restart the phone. If you are roaming, confirm that incoming SMS is supported and the carrier has not restricted the line.

Review spam and blocked messages

Open the default Messages app and check Spam & blocked. Search by the sender name as well as short codes. Review any carrier spam-protection app. If you previously blocked promotional messages, ask the carrier whether transactional short-code messages are affected. Do not disable all security filtering permanently just to receive one code.

Check the requesting app

Update the app, force stop it and reopen the verification screen. Confirm the country code and number. Clear only the app cache first; clearing storage may sign you out or remove local data. If the service supports browser verification, test its official website to determine whether the app itself is stuck.

Escalate with useful details

After one controlled retry, note the date, time, country, carrier and whether other SMS works. Share those details with official support without sending the OTP. Contact the carrier if multiple short-code senders fail. Use an official email, call or authenticator alternative when available.

Quick checklist

  • Test a normal incoming SMS
  • Confirm the active SIM
  • Check Spam & blocked
  • Update and reopen the app
  • Report time and carrier to support

Frequently asked questions

Do SMS apps need notification permission for delivery?

Notification permission affects alerts, not usually SMS network delivery. Still check the inbox directly.

Will clearing app cache delete messages?

Clearing an app’s cache normally does not delete SMS, but avoid clearing storage unless you understand the effect.

Important: GetFree4U’s current inbox entries are generated entries and are not messages received from a mobile network. Never use a public or displayed number for banking, government, healthcare or account recovery.
